For Peace Liner Notes: Music can inspire, music can heal, music can cross boundaries and connect people from far and wide. The music on this recording was composed with inspiration and reverence for the beauty of Hawaii and its people across generations from the time of Kalākaua to the present day. From the shores of Hanalei to the Halemaumau caldera at Kīlauea, from the mountain mists of Upcountry Maui to the distant reaches of the West End of Molokai at Papohaku, from the first light of morning on the tide pools at Makapu’u, in celebration of ohana, in appreciation of the wonderful slack key artists of the past, from the stories and people out of the rich heritage of Hawaiian history, and with a vision of peace and well-being for all, this music is shared with aloha and the hope that it brings you inspiration and solace as it has done for me. Mele Nahenahe – soft, sweet, melodious music or a gentle voice; softly blowing, as a gentle breeze; gentle-mannered, soft-spoken, suave. Pukui-Elbert Born and raised on the majestic slopes of Haleakalā on the island of Maui, two-time Grammy Award nominee and eleven-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Jeff Peterson has traveled the world sharing his passion for music and the aloha spirit. His signature guitar style is featured in the Oscar-winning film The Descendants and on the first Hawaiian album to win a Grammy Award. He recently composed and performed the first Concerto for Slack Key Guitar and Orchestra and is dedicated to preserving the tradition of Hawaiian slack key guitar.
