Intro to Duc de Morny Picpoul de Pinet – Duc de Morny Picpoul de Pinet from Coteaux du Languedoc Duc de Morny France is nicknamed ‘la bomba’ for its incredibly fruity concentrated character it has a floral enticing nose with a crisp fruity long lasting taste. Full tasting note and wine making – The wine is slightly perfumed with ripe melon notes on the nose. On the palate it is weighty and ripe but remains fresh and crisp and is the perfect example of the right grapes grown in the right terroir. 2020 was a fantastic vintage for the Duc de Mornay Picpoul de Pinet because of a warm early spring, followed by a relatively cool summer and a warm autumn. These factors meant a very long ripening period and created wines with lovely balance. They are de-stemmed and macerated on their skins followed by a fifteen day fermentation without malolactic fermentation. The producer – Cave de l’Ormarine is an award-winning co-operative which produces wines from the tiny Pinet appellation in the Hérault. Relatively recently incorporated in 1992, its history dates back to 1922. The owner has made significant investment in the winery, and prides itself on the high standard and traceability of its grapes. Cyril Payon is a meticulous winemaker and he carefully selects and picks his grapes at different times to capture different flavour profiles. Cave de l’Ormarine’s vineyards lie at approximately 40 metres above sea level on a chalky clay plateau, rich in Cretaceous limestone and quartz. The vineyards lie to the North of the Lac de Thau and slope towards it. Drink with – Grapes for the Picpoul de Pinet are grown only a stone’s throw from oyster leases in Étang de Thau bay.
