Le Balbuzard is made by Émile Balland, a small, detail‑driven Loire grower based in Bué, right in the heart of Sancerre country. He works tiny holdings of Sauvignon on classic Loire soils and vinifies with a very light hand, aiming for purity, precision and a clear sense of place. The Balbuzard label takes its name from the osprey that migrates through the Loire wetlands, tying the wine to the river’s ecology and Balland’s quietly careful approach in the vineyard. The Sauvignon comes from silex and limestone parcels that give the wine its tension and mineral edge. It’s brisk and clean, showing citrus, green apple and a gentle grassy lift, with that faint gunflint note typical of flintier soils. The palate is linear and refreshing, carried by Loire acidity and finishing with a subtle stony snap. A proper cool‑climate Sauvignon: honest, bright and very much in Émile Balland’s understated, terroir‑first style.
