Intro to Adobe Organic Reserva Gewurztraminer – Adobe Organic Reserva Gewurztraminer from the Rapel Valley in Chile has floral spicy aromas with a touch of lychee and on the palate there are bright lingeringly spicy and exotic fruit notes. Stunning wine, the absolute essence of Gewürztraminer. Full tasting note and wine making – True Gewurztraminer – the nose has jasmine tea notes with white pepper held together by a fine sandy structure. On the palate there are bright floral and mineral nuances with a lingeringly spicy, ginger and exotic finish. This Adobe Organic Reserva example is a very appealing and accessible Gewürztraminer. The grapes are from the Rapel Valley which lies with the Pacific Ocean to the West, to the east the Andes Mountains, and to the south the province of Colchagua. The climatic characteristics of this valley include frost-free springs and warm summers that allow the grapes to ripen well. The grapes were hand-picked and carried in bins starting the last week of April, when they reached the desired ripening and fermented in stainless steel tanks before bottling soon after to retain the lovely inherent freshness of the wine. The producer – The Adobe range of wines are made by Emiliana which is one of the world’s most important producers of organic and biodynamic wines and the largest in South America. They have a total of 997 hectares under vine in the valleys of Casablanca, Maipo, Colchagua, and Cachapoal of which 923ha are IMO certified organic and the remaining 77 in conversion. Their spectacular biodynamic vineyard and winery at Los Robles is a model that attracts visiting viticulturalists and winemakers from all over the world. General Manager José Guilisasti and winemaking consultant Alvaro Espinoza were key to establishing this project to convert a large commercial winery into a commercially viable organic one.
