Intro to Taittinger Brut Reserve NV – Taittinger Brut Réserve defines the Taittinger house style. It is dry, light and graceful with small, fine bubbles. Fresh citrus fruit and subtle, weightier notes of peach and brioche combine to provide elegance in a glass. Full tasting note and wine making – Taittinger Brut Réserve is renowned for its golden yellow colour with a consistent, fine, lingering mousse. The nose is light and delicate with hints of fruits and brioche. The palate is lean, but has considerable depth and elegance with a long fresh finish. It is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier that are grown in prime vineyards throughout Champagne, with 50% coming from the Taittinger Estate. Produced each year from 95% first pressings of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay this is the definitive cuvée of Champagne Taittinger. It also includes a proportion of reserve wine to ensure consistency from year to year. Prior to release the Brut Réserve is aged for 3-4 years giving the wine depth whilst allowing the component parts to become fully integrated. The producer – Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses owned and managed by the family named on the label. Its origins date back to 1734 and the Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger acquired the House. Today, the Reims it is headed up by Pierre’s grandson, Pierre-Emmanual Taittinger and his son, Clovis and daughter Vitalie both of whom are actively involved in of this Champagne House. Taittinger’s home is situated above miles of chalk tunnels and cellars that are perfect for the slow ageing process required for great Champagne. The hallmark of the Taittinger Champagnes is the high percentage of Chardonnay used in their winemaking which can be anything from 40% in the Brut Réserve Non Vintage to 100% in the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. This Chardonnay dominance provides for a style of elegance, delicacy and finesse that has earned the House many accolades over the years.
