Intro to Rimauresq Rose Cru Classe – Rimauresq Rose Cru Classe is made in the heart of Provence from Grenache, Cinsault and Tibouren grapes. It is a properly Mediterranean scented rose with a beautiful pink complexion and the flavours are full of character and charm with a hint of spice and good length. Full tasting note and wine making – The Rimauresq estate in Provence has 57 hectares vineyards with an average vine age of 40. The vineyards are at altitude 140 to 190 metres with a unique microclimate and the vines benefit from the cooling Mistral winds and are sheltered by the mountains from the harsh Mediterranean sun. The shade allows a longer ripening period and better fruit development prior to harvest. Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah provide structure, supplemented by small amounts of Mourvèdre, Rolle, Tibouren, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon for complexity. The grapes for this “rosé de presse” are pressed and the free run juice separated. After fermentation the wines are left on their lees for three weeks improving the aromas. The wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation so as to preserve their acidity and freshness. The producer – In the heart of the Provence wine region, mid-way between Nice and Marseille, Rimauresq takes its name from Real Mauresque the river which flows through the vineyards. The Domaine itself is located at the foot of Notre Dame des Anges in the Massif des Maures mountain range and benefits from a microclimate and diverse terroirs. Rimauresq is one of the select group of Côtes de Provence vineyards awarded Cru Classé status in 1955, a classification mirroring that of the great Bordeaux châteaux based on the quality of the wines and heritage of the properties. The estate is family owned by the Wemyss family and produces characterful whites, floral scented rosés and full yet elegant reds with great character. The premium range labelled ‘R’ is sourced from older vines which give extra depth and minerality to the wines. Drink with- Fantastic as an aperitif or try with salads, grilled fish or salad Niçoise.
