Jan ‘Boland’ Coetzee, a product of the West Coast, stands as a South African wine industry and Rugby icon. After studying Oenology and Viticulture at Stellenbosch University, his journey started as winemaker at Kanonkop, creating the first bottled Kanonkop wine. After 12 years at Kanonkop, Jan spent a season in Burgundy learning and working with the French traditional experts, after his time in France he was inspired to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at Vriesenhof. Aromas of citrus blossom, heady summer flowers and subtle wood spice are offset by biscuit-like savoury notes. The palate wraps flavours of creamy lees, citrus acidity and barrel maturation notes into enticing layers of complexity. Succulent stone fruit flavours linger on a well-balanced, persistent finish. Aged in French oak, 25% new French oak and the rest a combination of 2nd and 3rd fill French oak for 10 months
