“The 2016 Scipio combines leafy Cabernet Franc and breezy coastal Tuscany with great results. It has a delicious nose of black fruits, damp earth, a touch of dark chocolate and herbal scents, even a touch of seaweed. In the mouth it has plenty of intensity, polish, focus and grip. A stony quality tightens up the palate as it corkscrews through the core of black fruits, while currants, raspberry, chocolate, herbs and raspberry leaf dance around. There’s a splash of coffee and peppery spice at the end and although it’s a touch dry on the finish at present, it features persistent fresh acidity. More red fruit character and better integration of the tannins than the 2017, although this still needs time.” 95 Points, James Button, Decanter (tasted May 2021) Cabernet Franc planted at 400 m above sea level and at a density of 9,300 vines/ha. Spontaneous fermentation with a total of 25 days on the skins. Aged for 24 months in barriques followed by 12 months in bottle. “In the mould of their Indaco, so don’t expect a Loire style. Huge depth of dark forest fruit but this is more complex and with a less-sweet impression on the nose. Plush cassis and cherry fruit with hints of oak. Sensationally balanced and with gorgeous sandpapery tannins and a bitter Campari-like note on the finish. Very pretty and hedonistic at the same time.” 17.5/20 Walter Speller for Jancis Robinson MW Order Any 6 Bottles For Fast FREE Delivery.
