This is the only Rabo de Ovelha available in the U.K, and one of only two being produced in Portugal. Casa Relvas is a modern Alentejo estate built on five generations of agricultural experience, with its current chapter beginning in 1997 at Herdade de São Miguel in Redondo. The family’s approach is rooted in the landscape: clay‑ and schist‑based soils, the surrounding montado ecosystem, and the warm, dry Alentejo climate. Over the past two decades the project has grown into one of the region’s most recognisable names, combining scale with a clear commitment to sustainability, native varieties and an honest, region‑first style of winemaking. Rabo de Ovelha is an indigenous Portuguese white variety with a particular foothold in the southern Alentejo, and Casa Relvas treats it with a light touch to preserve its naturally bright, citrus‑driven character. The wine shows a clean citrine colour and an aromatic profile that mixes tropical fruit, fresh citrus, and a subtle orange‑blossom lift. On the palate it’s deliberately fresh and low in alcohol (around 11.5%), with crisp acidity, a gentle mineral edge and a straightforward, refreshing finish. The style is very much about clarity and drinkability while still expressing a distinctly local grape.
